- Attractive retro-styled body
- Built-in viewfinder
- Wi-Fi connectivity
- Film-simulation modes
- Basic video functionality
- Fixed screen
- not touch-sensitive
- Slow autofocusing
An attractive camera that's capable of producing beautiful images. But as a minor upgrade to the X-E2, the X-E2S exists mainly as an entry into the X series rather than being a particularly exciting product in its own right.
Bildqualität (50%): 85%; Geschwindigkeit (20%): 88%; Ausstattung (20%): 90%; Bedienung (10%): 85%
- Good JPEG color rendition and Raw file flexibility
- 16MP X-Trans sensor offers good high ISO performance
- Classic rangefinder styling and controls are both functional and attractive
- Build quality is excellent
- ...
- Sensor / processor is looking dated, especially compared to newer Fujifilm models
- Hybrid autofocus speed is noticeably lens-dependent
- Autofocus subject tracking is much less sophisticated than market peers
- Poor video performance with very limited video tools
- EVF placement isn't ideal for left-eyed shooters
The Fujifilm X-E2S is an engaging camera for those with some photographic experience, or for newcomers looking for a camera to grow into. The build quality, controls and handling are all excellent, the trademark Fujifilm JPEG output remains a staff favorite and the lens ecosystem offers a wide selection of quality lenses. The video specification, autofocus system and some aspects of operational speed are starting to show their age, but overall, the X-E2S has a lot to offer at its price point.

- New electronic shutter function
- Refined viewfinder interface
- Improved focus performance
- Relatively minor update on the X-E2
- Feels unbalanced with large and heavy zoom lenses
...While I had hoped for slightly more from the successor to the X-E2, the updates that have been made to the X-E2S have enhanced the performance, without treading too much on the X-Pro2's toes.
I love the photos that come out of the X-E2S, and I’m just as fond of the exposure controls. Video quality and subject tracking are both a bit iffy; if these features are important, go for the Sony a6000 or Panasonic G7. I suspect most people won’t be too concerned either way. Autofocus and shot-to-shot times are up to scratch for the vast majority of shooting conditions. ...
