The Sigma DP2X has a lot of holes in its specification and improves very little on the DP2s with regards to a feature set and specification, but if you're an enthusiast and you're willing to make sacrifices for great image quality, the DP2X could well be an advanced compact for you.

The DP2s isn't a replacement for the DP1, or the updated model of that camera, the DP1s. These cameras run side by side. The DP1 and DP1s have a 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens, while the DP2s has a general-purpose 41mm-equivalent lens.
The Sigma DP2s is only marginally improved over the DP2 we reviewed a year ago, and the competition has raced ahead in that time.

Some control quirks are offset by superb detail and great high sensitivity shooting that compensate for some otherwise iffy white balance issues so RAW shooting is the best way to get the most from the DP2s. Sigma baut in die DP2 den gleichen Bildsensor wie in seine Spiegelreflexkameras ein. Mit diesem liefert die Kompaktkamera vor allem bei Bildern im hauseigenen Rohdatenformat X3F hervorragende Bildqualität. Durch ihre Festbrennweite eignet sich die DP2 eher für anspruchsvolle Aufnahmen denn für Schnappschüsse.
Keine Schnappschusskamera: Die Sigma DP2 verlangt, dass der Fotograf sich Zeit für die Aufnahmen nimmt. Die Bedienung geht insgesamt noch leicht von der Hand. Aber um mit der Festbrennweite den richtigen Bildausschnitt zu wählen, braucht es Geduld und Erfahrung. Zusätzlich zeigt die Kamera ihre hervorragende Bildqualität nur bei Aufnahmen im Rohdatenformat X3F. Von Anfang an im JPEG-Format komprimierte Fotos fallen hingegen trotz des großen Bildsensors nur unwesentlich besser aus, als die anderer Kompaktkameras.

Mit der DP2 bringt Sigma eine Digitalkamera auf den Markt, die an analoge Fotoapparate des letzten Jahrtausends erinnert. Der Foveon-X3-Sensor ähnelt vom Aufbau her eher traditionellen Filmen als aktuellen CMOS- und CCD-Chips.
Die Sigma DP2 ist eine Kamera für Könner und Kenner, die mit einer Vielzahl manueller Bedienelemente, tollem Design und genialer Detailschärfe überzeugt. Schnappschussfotografen sollten sich allerdings besser nach einem anderen Modell umsehen.
