Apple's new Mac mini features some welcome updates and a controversial omission, but overall it remains in the same competitive middle ground as its earlier incarnations. No other system in its price range comes close to the Mac mini's pleasing, compact design, and this S$1,088 model brings some welcome performance improvements, along with the still-developing potential of its Thunderbolt port. Competing slim-tower PCs from the Windows side of the aisle offer more features for the same price, among them optical drives, which Apple has left off its new small form factor desktop.
Apple's new S$1,088 Mac mini demands that you abandon disc-based media, and that you surround it with potentially expensive extra hardware to realize its full benefits. It makes most sense for committed Mac users, those who need it for a specific niche-case, or for those who value design over functionality for the dollar.
Apple has taken the step of cutting the price of its 2.4Ghz Mac Mini by £50 to £599 – yet across the pond in its own back yard they have kept the price constant at $699.

Apple's new Mac Mini answers a lot of the issues that have plagued the series over the years. An HDMI port helps it fulfill its potential as a living room system. An SD card slot gives a nod to digital photographers. A removable panel on the bottom provides user access to the system memory for easy upgrading. We like all of those additions, as well as the sleek, new design.
Apple's new Mac Mini includes an elegant new design and some long asked-for features, including HDMI output and user-accessible memory. The system still faces a value challenge for its given specs, but Apple has done enough to improve the Mac Mini's appeal for Apple loyalists and design fans looking for a living room computer.

Der neue Apple Mac Mini ist zwar deutlich teurer als sein Vorgänger, dafür sieht er aber auch schicker aus und bietet mehr Leistung denn je. Wer nach einem kleinen Allround-Rechner fürs Wohnzimmer sucht und das nötige Kleingeld mitbringt, ist hier genau richtig.

Im Oktober hat Apple neben weiteren Neuerungen einen schnelleren Mac Mini vorgestellt. Anstatt mit 2 GHz läuft die Intel-Core-2-Duo-CPU des Rechners nun mit 2,53 GHz. Zudem verfügt der kleine Computer nun über 4 GByte Arbeitsspeicher.
Wer unbedingt einen Mac möchte, der klein und vergleichsweise günstig ist, ist hier genau an der richtigen Adresse. Allerdings hat Apples neuester Mac Mini mit einer stärkeren Windows-Konkurrenz zu kämpfen als seine Vorgänger. Käufer, die auch mit Windows leben können, haben eine große Auswahl an Geräten mit interessanteren Features und einem besseren Preisleistungsverhältnis.
Im Zuge der Produktpflege überarbeiteter Mac mini. Nach dem Update nun mit nVidia Chipsatz und DDR3 Speicher. Nicht-Apple Monitore nur noch über Adapter anschließbar.
Dem neuen Mac mini hat die Produktpflege wirklich gut getan. Der neue Chipsatz und die damit verbundene neue Grafik war bitter nötig. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger hat der neue Mac mini einen großen Satz nach vorne gemacht. Ab 599 Euro ist der Mac mini im Apple Store verfügbar und damit der günstigste Rechner im Apple Sortiment. Einen kleinen Punkteabzug gibt es allerdings dafür, dass man für handelsübliche Displays extra Adapter braucht und nur die neuen Apple LED Cinema Displays direkt angeschlossen werden können...

Comparing the new entry-level Mac mini to its predecessor, a 1.83GHz model with a 80GB hard drive, we see a performance gain of 23 percent in our Speedmark 5 score, with the new Mac mini beating the older model in every test we ran. The performance of the new low-end Mac mini and the entry-level white MacBook 2GHz () are very similar. With just 3 Speedmark points separating them, the two systems finished within a second or two of each other and the majority of our tests. We’re still testing the new Mac minis as well as the new iMacs and we’ll include the results in Macworld’s full review. it will be interesting to see how the new desktop systems compete.
