- Great feature set
- Decent battery life
- HDMI-out
- HD voice calling
- Handset design isn't as sharp as the Xperia Arc
- Camera doesn't live up to the hype
The Xperia Neo shares the same DNA as its Xperia brethren, with the new Exmor R image sensor and Bravia display engine, but it's very much the black sheep of the family.

The Xperia Neo shares the same DNA as its Xperia brethren, with the new Exmor R image sensor and Bravia display engine, but it's very much the black sheep of the family.
As a sum of its parts, the Xperia Neo stands side by side with the Xperia Arc, but it still feels like the ugly stepsister in comparison. Sony Ericsson's "human curvature" handset design is built on a well conceived ergonomic theory, but it's far less sexy to stare at, and it feels bulky in the pocket of a pair of jeans. But what really separates these two excellent phones is the size and quality of the displays used. The Arc's 4.2-inch screen is one of this year's best displays, with its air-less panel-to-glass relationship delivering outstanding contrast. ...
With a name like Neo, Sony Ericsson has given this phone rather a high pedestal to climb up to. Can this mid-range Android smartphnoe make the arduous journey or will it fall at the first hurdle? Read on to find out.
The Sony Ericsson Neo doesn't set any new records but with a price of just over £300 SIM free, it's not likely to. Indeed with key features like a high-res screen, a camera button, and front facing camera, it's very well equipped for its calibre. However, while clearly reasonably competitively priced, it’s currently a little more expensive than the HTC Desire S, which is a much classier looking phone, so we might be tempted by that alternative. If and when the price drops below £300, though, it'll be well worth a look.
- HDMI output
- new Facebook integration adds some features
- up-to-date Android version
- comfortable in the hand
- camera performance
- Screen foibles
- Timescape still isn't as complete as we'd like it to be
- basic level functionality can't compete with rivals
The Sony Ericsson Neo (and QWERTY packing Pro) models didn’t get nearly the attention that was afforded to the Xperia Arc and the Xperia Play upon launch. ...
We're not certain who the Neo will appeal to. It is outclassed by the Arc, but in the compact handset running is bettered by the likes of the HTC Desire S. There are some nice touches though and the camera performance is strong
- Bright, colourful screen
- Amazing 8-megapixel camera
- 720p video recording
- HDMI output
- Timescape app is still disappointing
- Casing feels rather cheap
Rating: 4 / 5 Stars
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo offers an excellent screen, superb camera and HDMI output, helping it to stand out from the horde of competing mid-range Android smart phones.
- Concaved design
- Excellent camera
- HDMI-out port
- Plastic build feels like a cheap toy
- Poor default keyboard
- Thin external buttons
Sony Ericsson's XPERIA Play and XPERIA Arc Android phones may be the company's flagship models of 2011, but there is another Sony Ericsson offering that has slipped quietly under the radar: XPERIA Neo.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo can't claim the XPERIA Arc's unique design, or the XPERIA Play's dedicated gaming controls, but it offers a similar feature set including an excellent camera and a HDMI-out port.
- "brilliantes Display mit kräftigen, aber natürlichen Farben
- lichtstarke Kamera
- komplette Ausstattung mit WLAN, HSPA, A-GPS-Empfänger
- einfache Bedienung
- Android 2.3
- als Pro auch mit Qwertz-Videoaufzeichnung in HD-Auflösung"
- "nur eine LED als Blitzersatz
- vergleichsweise kleines Display"
Erster Check: 4 von 5 Punkten
- Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
- HDMI-out port
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- Bravia graphics engine
- 8-megapixel camera with Exmor R camera sensor
- Paltry 320MB of internal memory
- no announced release date for Australia
Android phones are all the rage at the moment, and most of the standout handsets have featured touchscreen keyboards. Sony Ericsson is attempting to change this with the launch of the XPERIA Neo Pro; an entertainment and multimedia focussed smartphone that has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo Pro Android phone is essentially the XPERIA Neo with the addition of a slide-out, physical keyboard. The XPERIA Neo Pro is heavily focussed on entertainment, with a built-in HDMI port, a Bravia graphics engine, and an 8-megapixel camera.
