The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 appears to be a needless upgrade. It has the same sized screen with the same resolution as its predecessor and adds no significant new features aside from a microSD card slot and updated Android software. At the end of the day the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is sluggish, overpriced and ultimately offers nothing compelling enough to consider it over rival tablets.

Overall, a good tablet. The Galaxy Tab still rules the roost for video playback and codec/container support. The problem is, it's not that interesting to look at. But at this price, we think it's a decent competitor to the iPad, and there's more than enough to like. Jelly Bean needed though, to really make this a tablet worthy of our love

So, there's nothing wrong with the well-priced Tab 2 10.1. But neither is it anything special. Given that the iPad has had a significant upgrade since the first Tab's release, and that the Android competition is fiercer than ever, it looks slightly outdated here.

It seems strange to see a new tablet that hasn't changed too much from its predecessor which perhaps best describes the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Having got thicker and heavier, the specs are mostly just the same. The screen is still an absolute joy to watch films and video while Micro SD card support and Ice Cream Sandwich are both nice and necessary additions.

After the blockbuster entrance by the original Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a more muted affair, offering little in the way of an upgrade from its predecessor and seemingly happy to nestle into mid-range obscurity, instead of setting itself up to challenge the new iPad.

Samsung's 10.1" Galaxy Tab 2 is doubtlessly a good tablet. The equipment is chosen aptly for a midrange tablet. Little things like the omitted LED Flash or that the front-face camera has a lower resolution than the previous generation is tolerable. But one question remains: Why does Samsung even release the Galaxy Tab 2 onto the market seeing that it offers only few new innovations let alone a higher performance than the still quite young N range?
