Lenovo's ThinkPad notebooks are a must for any self-respecting businessman. The company has proven time and again that it can design and create laptops which fulfill the needs of on-the-go professionals, and, as such, it is not surprising that many large corporations, as well as private businesses, use ThinkPad models for work. The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 may not be perfect, but it is a well-designed laptop with the typical ThinkPad "flair". The notebook offers good mobility and the latest hardware - a combination hard to resist. So we can safely say that the Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is an attractive deal. The sturdy case proves resistant in many areas but it is not perfect. The material weakness does not impact the sturdiness of the case too much, but the bulging of the material in the display border when the laptop heats up in direct sunlight will leave a negative impression on users. ...

Professionelles Subnotebook. Ein kleines, ausdauerndes und dennoch leistungsstarkes Notebook ist der Traum vieler Anwender. Wenn dann noch ein IPS-Display und der Name ThinkPad dazu kommen, hört es sich schon fast nach dem perfekten Begleiter an. Ob das stimmt, haben wir umfangreich getestet.

Das Lenovo ThinkPad X220 ist zwar nicht perfekt, bietet aber dennoch einige sehr gute Eigenschaften, die neben dem typischen „ThinkPad-Flair“ für überzeugende Argumente sorgen. Das insgesamt gewohnt stabile Gehäuse punktet an vielen entscheidenden Stellen, muss sich aber andererseits auch etwas Kritik gefallen lassen. Während die kleineren Materialschwächen ohne Auswirkung in die Kategorie „unnötig“ fallen, hinterlässt der sich unter Sonneneinstrahlung aufwölbende untere Displayrahmen einen bleibenden negativen Eindruck. ...

Zusammen mit der höheren Leuchtstärke, die auch Briefe schreiben in der direkten Sonne erlaubt, stellt sich das Display auf eine Stufe mit den alten Apple MacBook Pro Modellen - Wäre da nicht das Bildflackern und die unpraktische Abstufung der Helligkeitsstufen. Das X220 ist ein würdiger Nachfolger der 12-Zoll ThinkPads. Es ist eins dieser Laptops, die den Spagat zwischen Mobilität und Leistung ohne Mühe schaffen und somit nicht nur für Office-Arbeiten geeignet sind. Theoretisch können die neuen Sandy Bridge CPUs und die darin integrierten Grafikchips die Bedürfnisse der meisten Anwender befriedigen, aber der kleine Bildschirm verhindert den Einsatz als Desktop Replacement...

As you may have noticed, there has been a surge in the popularity of tablets recently. Thanks largely to the original Apple iPad, the tablet market is seeing innumerable entrants, a few of which we covered in our recent iPad2 VS the world article. However, for those who are serious about work as well as play, and who want something that can be a 'proper' computer when necessary, the rarer convertible tablet laptop is still the way to go, offering a swivel screen which can fold down across the keyboard to morph into a slate. With a glorious 12.5in capacitive IPS screen (the same panel type found in professional monitors like the HP DreamColor LP2480zx and, for that matter, the iPad) and Wacom digitizer, rugged exterior, all-day battery life and Intel's Sandy Bridge processors inside, Lenovo's new ThinkPad X220 Tablet may well be the one to rule them all.

Is Lenovo's ThinkPad X220T the perfect tablet laptop? Not really, but it's as close as it gets. Sure, it's not cheap, its industrial aesthetic won't appeal to everyone, it lacks USB 3.0 and eSATA, and we would have liked a few more vertical pixels on the screen. However, with the excellent quality of its class-leading IPS display, amazing battery life, superb build quality and ergonomics, high-end specifications and ThinkPad reputation, this is the best convertible tablet laptop currently on the market.

Lenovo's X series laptops have always been high-end ultraportable machines for business travelers who need to work on the go with minimum of compromise. The X220 continues this tradition and adds a few new twists at the same time. The biggest design change is a move to a 12.5-inch display--a very unusual size.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 packs in a new Intel Core i5 CPU and can run all day (depending on how you use it). With a 12.5-inch display, it's just a bit smaller than a 13-inch laptop, and it feels like an excellent compromise for frequent travelers.
