In Gestalt des GT540 feiert die neue Optimus-Reihe von LG ihre Premiere. Sämtliche Smartphones der neuen Serie setzen auf das Betriebssystem Android, das vorliegende Test-Handy nutzt die Version 1.6. Die Bedienung erfolgt über den 3 Zoll großen, resistiven Touchscreen, der 262.000 Farben zeigt. Dank der Internetanbindung per WLAN, HSDPA oder EDGE erfolgt der Zugriff auf soziale Netzwerke wie Facebook oder Twitter im Nu. Auch Webseiten sind dank der verbauten Trägerfrequenzen fix aufgebaut.
Bereits ein Blick auf die technischen Daten verrät, dass mit dem GT540 durchaus zu rechnen ist. There is no doubting that the LG Optimus GT540 is attractive in pricing terms, and LG has done a good job of making it look attractive both physically and in terms of its own Android skin. You'd never know by looking at the LG Optimus GT540 smartphone that it was made of plastic, with its stylish brushed-metal effect finish. It also impresses with a slew of features, reasonable camera and solid performance. But LG has missed the chance to take on the likes of the HTC Wildfire by using an older version of the Android operating system and equipping the smartphone with a resistive, rather than capacitive, touchscreen.

The Optimus may not be a top-end device, but you wouldn't know by looking at it. Slightly less wide than the iPhone 4, it fits snugly in your hand, and the brushed-metal effect on the battery cover and sides of the handset give it a pleasingly high-end look.

Das LG GT540 erweitert die Auswahl für Smartphone-Käufer, die nicht viel Geld ausgeben möchten, aber trotzdem alle Vorteile der Android-Plattform inklusive einer großen Auswahl an Apps ausnutzen möchten. When LG recently unveiled two new Android phones in the Optimus series, it also announced that the sub-brand would not be limited to just one kind of product or operating system. Though we are not exactly sure how this lineup will shape up in the future, what's clear is that it currently consists of only Android phones. The first in the series is the GT540, an Android 1.6 (Donut) smartphone with a low price tag of S$418.
This Android smartphone adds one more option for the budget-conscious, with major drawbacks being the touchscreen and slow performance.
Though there is plenty of hype in the tech world surrounding Google’s Android operating system, the fact remains that it is still in its infancy and initially it was really only found in high-end smartphones, such as Google's Nexus One and HTC's Hero. That is set to change in mid-2010 when LG launches its first smartphone in Australia, the GT540.
