  • suitable for all ages
  • good range of fitness titles
  • Some games suffer from lag issues
  • setting up can be a chore
Zusammenfassung

Kinect for Xbox 360 has finally landed on store shelves across the country. For those who have been living under a rock for the past few months, Kinect for Xbox 360 is a full-body motion control system that mimics your movement in-game. It essentially turns you into the controller, with every hand and limb gesture replicated onscreen.

Fazit

Kinect for Xbox 360 still has a lot to prove. The games we have seen so far are quite limited in scope (most are variations on the party and fitness genres). That said, the potential is there for more exciting and innovative titles in the future.

Zusammenfassung

Kinect is many things. It's an advanced motion sensor, a revolutionary add-on, and Microsoft's best hope of socking it to Sony and Nintendo. Most of all, however, it's a reinvention. The clues were already there in last week's autumn dashboard update with its cheerful, family-friendly quick start guide, but what strikes you most about Kinect is that it's an all-out attempt to transform the Xbox 360 from a hardcore gamer's console into what's effectively the logical next step forward from the Wii...

Fazit

Kinect has issues with space and size, and its games won't appeal to the hardcore market. Yet it effortlessly transforms the Xbox 360 into a family games console, and one with more 'wow' factor than anything since the Wii. With several strong launch titles, there's no reason not to dive in.

  • You become the controller
  • plenty of good games at launch
  • easy to set-up and install
  • You'll need a big lounge
  • you'll need to be happy making a fool of yourself in your lounge
Zusammenfassung

Microsoft Kinect first burst on to the scene as Project Natal over a year ago. Then, we had the high profile announcement at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles, and now on 4 November 2010 it goes on sale in the US, and just 6 days later (10 November) it goes on sale in the UK. ...

Fazit

Kinect shows that the future of gaming can be button-less, as long as you’ve got a big enough lounge to enjoy it in

  • Reasonably priced
  • Tremendous future potential
  • Massive launch game line-up
  • Accuracy problems
  • Incomplete or missing features
  • Inconsistent interface
Fazit

Intrepid but flawed, Microsoft's Kinect motion-sensor for Xbox 360 offers true controller-free gaming at a reasonable price, but suffers from serious accuracy and tracking issues.

  • Great fun
  • Couldn't be simpler
  • Impressive motion-tracking technology
  • Two player maximum at launch
  • Expensive
  • Some noticeable lag
Zusammenfassung

The Kinect sensor bar is a black, glossy affair that sits under your telly. The bar itself measures around 284 by 70 by 70mm. In case you're having trouble visualising that, just take our word that it's reasonably chunky and, while it'll hardly dominate your AV set-up, it's not the sveltest piece of kit we've ever stuck under our telly.

Fazit

You'll need plenty of space to use Microsoft's Kinect motion-gaming system, but it's just about the most fun you can have with your hands free. It's not accurate enough to win over hard-core gamers, but it's simple and hugely entertaining.
