Das charmante, kleine schwarze Play- Book hat schon das Zeug zur iPad-Alternative, wenn nicht zum Konkurrenten. Eine 3G-Variante wäre allerdings schön, außerdem ist die Akkulaufzeit etwas zu knapp. Apps gibt es bereits im hauseigenen App-Store, nach und nach sollen Android-Apps auf das Blackberry OS umgeschrieben werden. Somit stehen dem innovativen Betriebssystem alle Wege offen.

Weil iPad-Klone wie Pilze aus dem Boden schießen, präsentiert jetzt auch RIM seine Variante des Tablet-Computers, wobei die Bezeichnung "PlayBook" ein wenig in die Irre führt.
Aufgrund seiner Einschränkungen empfiehlt sich das Blackberry Playbook in der ersten Version ausschließlich für Nutzer von neueren Blackberry Smartphones, alle anderen sollten lieber zur Konkurrenz greifen. Denn nur über den Bridge-Modus funktionieren Synchronisation von Kontakten, Kalender und E-Mails sowie der Internetzugang unterwegs über das Mobilfunknetz - ohne Blackberry fehlen diese wichtigen Funktionen schlichtweg. ...
Schwarz und gut. Beim Design ließen sich die Kanadier nicht viel einfallen. Statt optische Akzente zu setzten ist die Technik in einem äußerst schlichten, schwarzen Kasten gehüllt – nennen wir es einmal wohlwollend ein elegantes Understatement. Einzig die gummierte Rückseite ist eine Nennung wert. Nicht zuletzt, da es sich um ein geschlossenes System ohne SIM- und Speicherkarten-Slot handelt, wirkt die Verarbeitungsqualität wie aus einem Guss – Spaltmasse ist hier ein absolutes Fremdwort. Der Touchscreen passt sich erwartungsgemäß der allgemeinen Kompaktheit des Gerätes an, wobei die Dimension aber zum komfortablen Surfen dicke ausreicht. Die Darstellungsqualität ist insgesamt unspektakulär, aber auf alle Fälle zeitgemäß gut, zumal keine Pixel erkennbar sind.
Nur für BlackBerry-Junkies eine sinnvolle Ergänzung.

The PlayBook is a beautiful machine with an imperfect suite of apps, showing immense potential that could be realised with updates in the coming months.

Ende September 2010 stellte Research in Motion (RIM) mit dem Blackberry Playbook seinen ersten Tablet-PC vor. Bis zum Deutschlandstart sind noch einmal knapp neun Monate vergangen. Viel Zeit, die der Hersteller in das Gerät und in das umgebende Ökosystem gesteckt hat. Ein "Me too"-Gerät ist das Playbook daher sicher nicht, sondern ein Tablet mit Potential.
Mit dem Blackberry Playbook präsentiert Research in Motion einen leistungsstarken Tablet-PC mit einer intuitiven Bedienung. Verarbeitung und Haptik sind hochwertig. Das Modell ist damit eine erfrischende Bereicherung für den wachsenden Tablet-Markt. Sollten Android-Apps tatsächlich bald problemlos auf dem Gerät laufen, erhöht dieses die Attraktivität des Playbook noch weiter. Ein nativer E-Mail-Client wäre dennoch sicherlich für viele Nutzer wünschenswert.

PlayBook may be an odd name for BlackBerry's first tablet, but RIM's 7in PlayBook offers a refreshing interface and smooth performance that live up to its name. However, beyond the great multitasking and intuitive UI, the PlayBook holds little appeal for non-BlackBerry smartphone users.

The BlackBerry PlayBook is a schizophrenic tablet that will bring great joy to some users but utterly baffle others. For some tasks it outclasses almost all other tablets yet it lacks some of the most basic functions offered by every other alternative. The BlackBerry PlayBook is a superb piece of hardware with a great screen, powerful speakers, smart design, and feature-packed innards. And were the software up to scratch it could easily be one of our top choice tablets. However, even though we know updates are imminent, as it stands this tablet lacks app support, is too unstable, has variable performance, and is too reliant on being paired to a BlackBerry phone. Check back in a couple of months, though, and we could well have a winner on our hands.

Let's get one thing straight -- the PlayBook is only suitable for people who have a BlackBerry smart phone and will never, ever switch to a different brand. Even if you're a CrackBerry addict now, don't bother with the PlayBook unless you think your addiction will outlast the life of the tablet.
The 7-inch BlackBerry PlayBook tablet has much going for it, including speedy multitasking capability and a zippy, fresh operating system. But we still can't recommend it, unless you're a confirmed CrackBerry addict.
