Das Sony Ericsson Aspen ist ein Smartphone in der Tradition der BlackBerry-Handys: Unterhalb des verhältnismäßig kleinen Displays befindet sich eine vollwertige QWERTZ-Tastatur, mit der Sie SMS und E-Mails bequem tippen können. Wahlweise in schwarz oder weiß erhältlich, zielt das Sony Ericsson Aspen also stark auf Geschäftsanwender, die tagtäglich viele E-Mails versenden müssen. ...
Insgesamt hat das Sony Ericsson Aspen leider das Ziel verfehlt: Was anfangs nach einem guten BlackBerry-Pendant für Windows-Freunde aussieht, entpuppt sich als größtenteils undurchdachter Schnellschuss. Die umständliche Handhabung macht die Benutzung zusammen mit dem viel zu kleinen Display leider zu einem Geduldsspiel.
Am Ende bleiben gemischte Gefühle, weil das lahmende, wenig intuitive Betriebssystem der guten Verarbeitung, den guten Messwerten, dem hohen Funktionsumfang und der tollen Tastatur einen bitteren Beigeschmack verleiht.
Ein Smartphone mit QWERTZ-Tastatur und Touchscreen zum moderaten Preis – da mag wohl so manch Kaufwilliger hellhörig werden. Auch die Ausstattungsliste ist mit HSDPA 7.2, HSUPA 2.0, WLAN, Push-Mail und leistungsstarkem Akku durchaus überzeugend. Doch leider ist nicht alles Gold, was glänzt, und so entpuppt sich das Sony Ericsson Aspen in der Praxis als etwas mühsames Geschöpf. ...

Consider it bad timing for the Sony Ericsson Aspen when it was announced just before the Barcelona-based Mobile World Congress in February 2010, where Microsoft unveiled its next-generation mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7. The Aspen, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.5.3, is one of the last few Windows Mobile (WM) smartphones before Windows Phone 7 launches by the end of this year.
The Sony Ericsson Aspen's green credentials, decent QWERTY and tight integration with Microsoft services are welcomed features, but the tiny 2.4-inch low-resolution touchscreen isn't the most thumb-friendly around. To be fair, the Aspen isn't a bad phone, but there are competing handsets (sans a touchscreen) that offer much better build quality and overall user experience.

The Sony Ericsson Aspen will be available in Q2 at an as yet disclosed tag. With Microsoft expected to announce Windows Mobile 7 soon at the Mobile World Congress 2010 held in Barcelona next week, there's a danger that demand for this Sony Ericsson may be dampened. However, if priced competitively, it appears to be a good alternative to handsets such as the Nokia E72 and Samsung Omnia Pro.
