Overkill for most... but we still want one
Overkill for most, with a few flaws, but that doesn’t stop us wanting one - the RX1R II is a phenomenal luxury compact camera.
- Simply sublime image quality
- Genuinely useful upgrades over the original RX1
- Outstanding build quality
- Seriously expensive
- Battery life could be better
- Autofocus feels slow against cheaper competition

While it's hard to fault the imaging performance of the RX1R II, almost $5,500 is a lot to pay for a compact camera with a fixed focal length lens, regardless of its sensor size and resolution. ...

- "Huge scale images, that Carl Zeiss lens is great and produces superb bokeh at f/2.0, great aperture and focus controls, built-in electronic viewfinder that is retractable if you want to hide it"
- "Poor battery life, auto white balance sometimes off, not the fastest of autofocus, close-up focus limitations, high ISO limitations (uneven gradients beyond ISO 1600), some barrel distortion"
... Just as we felt of the original camera, we have a lot for the RX1R II. It feels special, it's been a blast to use, but it doesn't feel quite at the top of its game - well, not at this considerable price point anyway.
- Amazing resolution
- Retractable electronic viewfinder
- No optical image stabilization
- Poor battery life
The Sony RX1R II delivers superb image quality in a neat, compact body. ...
- Full-frame sensor capable of incredible detail
- Fast 35mm f/2 lens is very sharp
- Large, bright, pop-up EVF for composing
- Doesn't have a built-in flash
- At times the focal length can be limiting
- Its size means it's not truly "pocketable"
...In all, the RX1R II is a rather specialist camera that's expensive, but equally an impressive piece of kit.
- Amazing resolution
- Small size
- Retractable electronic viewfinder
- Screen not touch sensitive
- No optical image stabilisation
- Poor battery life
The Sony RX1R II delivers superb image quality in a neat, compact body. The electronic viewfinder is great, though the processing speed and battery life are poor and there's no optical image stabilization.
