- Tiltable LCD

- Excellent built-in user guide
- Good blend of manual and automated controls
- 10-fps burst mode at full resolution
- Stabilization struggles at full telephoto

- Excellent photo and video quality
- Solid shooting performance for its class
- "The HX100V might actually be too much camera for some users and it has a couple minor design issues."
Like Sony's other 2011 HX-series cameras, the Cyber-shot DSC-HX100V can be a lot of fun thanks to an ample feature set. Its photo and video quality are excellent at small sizes, but less so for those expecting dSLR-quality at this price and size.
- Overflowing with shooting features
- excellent photo and video quality
- and solid shooting performance for its class
- Might be too much camera for some users
- has a couple of minor design issues
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX100V has a lot of features and a lot of lens with photo and video quality that's just good enough to back up its hefty price tag.

The Sony Cyber-shot HX100V is a long-zoom camera with a larger body that resembles a small DSLR. Its 30X-optical-zoom lens is a few steps behind the 36X-optical-zoom Nikon Coolpix P500 and the 35X-optical-zoom Canon PowerShot SX30 IS in zoom range, but the HX100V offers other benefits that may ultimately make it more appealing than its rivals.

A couple of trends are evident in the category of long-zoom cameras. First, companies are outfitting impossibly small cameras--pocket megazooms--with lenses that provide optical zoom ranges of 10X and up. Second, companies are going even bigger with larger-sized fixed-lens cameras, equipping them with optical-zoom lenses that approach 40X. ...

The 30X-optical-zoom HX100V may not have the zoom range or fine-tuning options of some competing cameras, but it compensates with futuristic extras, good video quality, and solid images.
- großer Weitwinkel
- überzeugendes HD-Bild
- lautes Zoomgeräusch
- kaum Einstellmöglichkeiten
- Clever dual zoom/focus ring
- 30x zoom range equates to 27-810mm

- Excess shutter speeds in auto modes
- Images aren't going to replace a DSLR
- Unfazed by 3D mode

The rather frightening price of Sony’s DSC-HX100V puts it firmly in DSLR territory. And from a distance, that’s exactly what it looks like...
Excellent quality images and videos, and a host of features, but the steep price isn’t entirely justified

- GPS
- good autofocus
- manual zoom and focus ring
- No RAW shooting
- image quality no better than standard compact
The Sony Cyber-shot HX100V hits the shelves some 2 years following on from the original Sony HX1 model. The latter was the instigator of the “Sweep Panorama” (live panorama capture that’s auto-stitched in camera) craze, and the HX100V not only takes this a step further forward but amps up the features elsewhere too. ...
Feature-packed and just as strong in its delivery, the Sony HX100V is a great 30x superzoom. Image quality may not excel beyond that of a standard compact and there’s no RAW shooting, but the focus & zoom ring operability, long-reaching zoom, GPS and 1080p movie mode make this a top piece of kit
- Dual manual zoom/focus ring
- GPS
- Fine image quality detail at 100%
- no Raw capture
The Sony HX100V joins an expanding group of 30x optical zoom superzoom cameras, going head to head against the likes of the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS and Fujifilm FinePix HS20 EXR. Where the HX100V sits apart from the competition is with its GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) technology (as represented by the ‘V' designation in the name) that can track and geotag images with location data.
In terms of performance the Sony HX100V is king of the superzooms: its close-up focusing and nippy autofocus will do you proud in all manner of scenarios. The dual zoom-meets-focus ring is a great control mechanism that's well-placed for comfortable use. Other areas such as HD movie and GPS will make it an all the more attractive purchase...
- Großer Zoombereich
- GPS-Empfänger eingebaut
- Filmen in Full-HD (1920 x 1080 Pixel)
- schwenkbarer Kontrollmonitor
- kurze Auslösungsverzögerung
- Großes und schweres Kameragehäuse
Preis-Leistungs-Urteil: angemessen

- 30x optical zoom is promising
- High-quality video recording
- Adjustable LED screen
- 3D features could prove gimmicky
Holding the HX100V in our hands, we reckon it feels quite sturdy. It filled our palms nicely, and we didn't notice any immediate creaking in the camera's chassis. We'll need more time with it, but this gives us reason to be positive about the build quality on offer here.
Having tested the HX100V, we're feeling positive about its 30x optical zoom. If the image quality is up to scratch, this could prove a great camera for those looking to take their first steps into pro-level photography.
