Nintendo's new 3DS is more than a refresh - it's the console it should have been from the start.

Glasses-free 3D is back and better than ever on the New Nintendo 3DS.

Both of the new 3DSes bring enough improvements to warrant an upgrade from the original system. Nintendo has finally managed to make the 3D effect work comfortably, and hardware looks more refined on both models. If you already own a 3DS, an upgrade in 2015 is a wise decision.

Nintendo's New 3DS isn't much improved overall, but that new display alone almost makes the purchase worthwhile -- or will do, once it's available outside of Japan.

f you’re into the idea of an inexpensive portable machine that plays great versions of Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and a bunch of other excellent games, you probably own a 3DS already. If you don’t, you should wait for this new model to come out in your country. Even if you do, you might find the New 3DS to be worth the upgrade anyway.

Given the age of the 3DS hardware, it's highly likely that this is the final revision we'll see before Nintendo puts the platform out to pasture and moves onto its next great portable offering.
