  • Solid feel yet diminutive build
  • one touch Full HD video recording with stereo sound
  • 360 degree panorama shooting plus two HDR modes deliver impressive results
  • 7x optical zoom extends creative possibility further
  • clear images even at higher ISO settings
  • Priced towards the top end of its point and shoot class (though street prices will be cheaper)
Zusammenfassung

Compact digital cameras are both ubiquitous and seemingly indistinguishable, so what is this one’s 'hook'? Well, in fact this Casio has several. ...

Fazit

Though it may miss out the GPS facility of its EX-H20G big brother, Casio has packed a lot into the EX-XR10, with features of genuine use greater in number than obvious gimmicks. Shame about softening detail at the corners of widest-angle shots, but this is one of the only black marks we can level at this otherwise capable and intuitive snapshot

... That's the pitch for the subject of today's review, the Casio Exilim EX-ZR10 point and shoot. At first inspection it might well have the specs to support this claim, with a 7x optical zoom, Slide Panorama feature, 1080p video recording with HDMI output, and a high-speed video function supporting speeds up to 480 frames per second.

Fazit

For those who just want to point and shoot in the main, but would occasionally appreciate a couple of extra gizmos at their fingertips for when they start to get bored, the EX-ZR10 comes into its own. The HDR features, Slide Panorama, slow-motion video clips and general speediness of operation impress. Sadly this is let down by corner softness at the maximum wide angle - one of the most often-used focal lengths for a compact camera. In this respect the Sony Cyber-shot WX5 may be a better bet for anyone looking for similar features and portability, yet sharper overall shots at extreme wide angle setting. Watch out for our full review next week. Otherwise images are detailed, response time (mostly) lightning quick and overall build quality is good. 'Could do far worse' seems like feint praise, but when levelled at the Exilim EX-ZR10 it is also particularly fitting.

  • Handy 7x optical zoom
  • High-speed continuous-shooting modes
  • 1080p video capture
  • Easy to use
  • Uninspiring design
  • Flesh tones can look rather unnatural
  • Expensive
Zusammenfassung

The ZR10 has a relatively non-descript design, and is available in three colours -- black, silver and pink. The build quality is fair. We wouldn't say it feels like a prestige product, but it certainly doesn't feel poorly or cheaply constructed.

Fazit

The Casio Exilim EX-ZR10 compact camera is expensive but well-endowed in the features department. It will probably appeal to users who want to do more than just point and shoot.
