Dank zahlreicher Funktionen kann der Fotograf die G16 ganz nach Wunsch einstellen. Gegen aktuelle Megazoom-Monster zieht sie mit ihrem fünffachen Zoom aber den Kürzeren. Im Test lieferte sie detailreiche und helle Fotos. Schade: Der winzige Sucher ist nicht elektronisch, sondern optisch und daher etwas dunkel.

Die G16 ist eine Empfehlung für Traditionalisten, die eine Kamera wollen, die noch wie eine Kamera aussieht. Zudem ist sie gut ausgestattet und liefert gute Bildqualität bis ISO 400 - Kauftipp "kompakt". Ob der 100-Euro-Mehrpreis gegenüber der G15 aber lohnt, ist durchaus fraglich.

Up to 480 shots can be eked out of a full charge of its lithium ion battery if operating in eco mode, which isn’t bad. Just stick under ISO6400 to avoid an obvious deterioration of fine detail and you’ll find this compact workhorse hard to beat.

Die Canon PowerShot G16 überzeugt im Test in nahezu jeder Hinsicht. Der große Fotosensor liefert eine sehr gute Qualität. Autofokus und Serienaufnahme flitzen förmlich davon und die Ausstattung lässt kaum Wünsche offen. Lediglich der optische Sucher fällt deutlich zu klein aus.

The Canon PowerShot G16 is a reassuring camera that does a good job. Its only real stand-out feature is improved responsiveness brought by the Digic 6 image processor. It'll be an ideal companion for users looking for a classic safe bet and who aren't tempted by originality or eye-catching innovations. This camera is certainly built to stand the test of time, but the G series also needs to move with the times, otherwise it risks being left behind. It would be a shame to see the Canon G slip from a pioneering compact to a relic of the past, especially when it has so many qualities.
