Once again it seems like it's Apple vs the world. While potential rivals for the iPad have been growing in number over the last few weeks, Apple is fighting back with a new and improved version of its ground-breaking touchscreen tablet. The iPad 2 is clearly designed to help Apple stay one step ahead of the game in the tablet market, and although it's very similar to the iPad 1—with the same screen and interface, for example—it also has a few key differences.
On iOS 5 the Apple iPad 2 gains speed, as well as a selection of new services that change the way users interact the product and consume content on a large-screen portable device. Compared with the original iPad, the tablet's design and handling has improved, making this new version even more stylish and ever more appealing. The photo function isn't really up to scratch, but the iPad 2 is still an excellent tablet that's got plenty going for it (user-friendly interface, broad appeal, App Store etc.)

Say what you like about the original iPad, you’d have to be deluded not to admit that Apple's equally lauded and derided tablet has changed a market more dramatically than we've seen in a long time. Apple may not be the only company making a good tablet any more, but it was certainly the first and it definitely takes credit for opening up the minds of the general public to the idea that, yes, a tablet just might have a place in their lives.
Without the majority of the tablet competition yet available it's hard to definitively call the iPad 2 the best of this generation. However, it's here, it's good and it's well priced, all of which gives the competition even more to live up to when they finally arrive. The iPad 2 is still just a toy - we can't believe that anyone could need an iPad - but that's okay; if you can afford a shiny expensive extravagance, why not buy the best available?
- Excellent design
- Slick user experience
- Improved performance
- Poor quality cameras
- No memory card slot
- No Flash support
Apple's iPad 2 tablet is finally here. A successor to the original iPad, which created a completely new category of devices and sold almost 15 million units worldwide, the iPad 2 is faster, thinner and lighter than its predecessor and now has dual cameras. If you liked the original iPad, you'll love the iPad 2, but for current iPad owners the second generation iPad isn't a necessary upgrade.

- An awesome tablet which improves on an already successful platform
- No display resolution bump
- trouble with backlight bleeding
The Apple iPad 2 is finally here. It's a device that has been a year in the making. We've pretty much been picturing what the iPad 2 would and would not include ever since Steve Jobs donned his famous turtleneck to announce the prequel back on 27 January 2010 and we bet plenty of you have too. ...
Yes, the cameras could have been better on the iPad 2, the screen could have been a higher resolution and we’re desperate to see iOS5 enhancements, but overall, we love the iPad 2. We love it like we loved the original. We just don't love it quite as much as we'd expected that we would
We were sceptical when Apple launched the original iPad; but it’s proved a roaring success. Where previous attempts at tablet computing have repeatedly stalled (anyone remember the MID?), Apple got it just right, completely reinvigorating the tablet market in the process..."
It’s thinner, lighter and more powerful than the first iPad, with better battery life to boot - but the cameras are a big let down
- lange Akkulaufzeit
- sehr helles Display
- App-Angebot
- einwandfreies Multitouch
- Verarbeitung
- schnelles Betriebssystem
- wenig Anschlüsse
- kratzempfindliches Display
- schlechte Kameras
- glänzendes Display
- teure Adapter / kleiner Lieferumfang
- Dramatically thinner
- Boasts front and rear cameras
- FaceTime video chat
- Faster processor
- Screen resolution hasn't budged
- Photo quality is mediocre
- Still no Adobe Flash support
- Ports for HDMI, USB and SD all require adapters
The iPad 2 refines an already excellent product. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalogue and marathon battery life bolster Apple's claim to being the king of tablets.
So, is the iPad 2 the tablet to beat in 2011? No doubt. It has the most apps, the thinnest construction, the longest battery life, a competitive price and an existing pool of hundreds of thousands of satisfied, iPad-evangelising customers. Competition from Google, HP and RIM will keep things interesting this year, but from what we've seen so far, they've got their work cut out for them.

The competition must really hate Apple. The iPad wasn't just a successful tablet computer in 2010 — it was the tablet computer. In one fell swoop, Apple created the new tablet market and sold tens of millions of iPads, despite a global economic downturn and considerable skepticism. â¨...
