Das Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG-434G50Mn Notebook ist ein würdiger Nachfolger der alten Timeline-Geräte und sicherlich derzeit einer der stärksten Boliden im Stall von Acer. Größtes Verkaufsargument ist die durchweg gute Performance. Kritisch ist allerdings Acers Sparkurs beim Eingabegerät sowie das deutlich verpatzte Display.

Last time we reviewed an Acer Aspire Timeline laptop — the 14in 4810T, which we tested in mid-2009 — we were impressed. This time we've got our hands on the new Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG, which is a notebook equipped with a 15.6in screen.
We think the Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG is a great notebook. It's comfortable to use, and despite its size it is not inconceivable that you could lug it to and from work or uni.

It's slim, but not the slimmest. It's certainly not the most attractive notebook. It's a decent performer, albeit one that we wished had more differentiation between its graphics modes when it comes to conserving precious battery power. In the competitive notebooks field, it's not enough to make the Acer TimelineX 5820TG truly standout.

The 5820T isn't all that much to look at -- a black brushed-steel effect on the laptop's cover is appreciated, though once you open it up you might feel rather underwhelmed. A businesslike, grey aesthetic betrays the interesting hardware lurking below the surface.
The 5820T's switchable graphics mean it's quite versatile, thanks to its Core i5 CPU and decently powered discrete GPU, but unfortunately it's let down by an underwhelming screen and an annoying trackpad, some missed design opportunities and a high price-tag.
